Let’s play every day

‘Let’s play every day’ promotes the importance of active play for children under five by encouraging parents and whānau to play with their children – every day.

Giving children lots of opportunities to play, both alone and with others, helps with their learning and development. Play is fun, and doesn’t need to be formal, structured or to cost money.

The campaign is a partnership between Te Hiringa Hauora/Health Promotion Agency, Sport New Zealand and Healthy Families New Zealand.

Check out our games section if you’re looking for new ideas for ways you can play with your children. There’s lots of indoor and outdoor ideas, as well as reminders of games you’re bound to have played when you were younger. Your children will love them too!

Sport NZ is supporting and advocating for play in several ways throughout New Zealand. To find out more, visit the play section of thier website. You’ll also find a link to their Play Principles, and information about physical literacy – which starts with children’s play.

Visit Healthy Families New Zealand if you’re looking for ideas on how you can create healthy change in your community. You’ll also find information and contact details for the ten Health Families NZ locations across the country.

So what are you waiting for? Have some fun and play, every day! It’s not strange, it’s play time.
