New Zealanders love the water. Swimming is a fun activity for the whole family but remember to be pool safe. Here's what you need to know to keep young children safe near swimming pools.
Swimming pools are the perfect place for teaching children water safety and swimming skills. And everyone loves to gather near a pool and have fun in the water.
Safety Tips:

Keep children under five within arm’s reach at all times. It only takes 60 seconds and around 5 centimetres of water for a child to drown.

If you're in a group of people, ensure you know who is watching your children at all times - even at public swimming pools.

Teach your children water safety as soon as they are old enough to understand things like: ‘Never go near the water unless you’re with a grown up’.
