Pinwheels

Worth the effort! Homemade pinwheels are super tasty eaten warm for weekend lunches or as leftovers in the lunchbox the next day. Get the kids to help you make these.
Ingredients
  • 1 sachet dried yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 200 ml lukewarm water
  • 2 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or garlic salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 4 teaspoons Marmite or Vegemite
  • 1 cup cheese, grated
Method
  1. 1. Combine yeast, sugar and water in a small bowl. Stir then leave it until foamy.
  2. 2. Place flour and salt in a large bowl and make a well in the centre.
  3. 3. Add the yeast mixture and oil to the flour and mix together to make a doughy ball.
  4. 4. Tip the dough out onto the bench and knead for 4-5 minutes until it is smooth.
  5. 5. Place dough in a large lightly-oiled bowl and cover with a tea towel or plastic wrap.
  6. 6. Leave dough in a warm place for 30-40 minutes until doubled in size.
  7. 1. Turn the oven on to 200 degrees Celsius.
  8. 7. Sprinkle a small amount of flour on the bench and roll the dough out into a rectangle (40cm x 25cm).
  9. 8. Spread with Marmite or Vegemite and sprinkle on the cheese. Roll up from the longest side to create a log.
  10. 9. Cut log into 12 even slices and lie them flat (but not touching) on a greased baking tray.
  11. 10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden and puffed.
Notes
For a change, make these with cheese and your favourite relish or chutney.
