Preparing homemade baby food: Helpful hints
Always wash and dry your hands before preparing your baby’s food.
Use a clean plate (or bowl) and spoon. Don’t share the spoon with your baby – you may pass germs to your baby if you do.
Remove the skins and seeds from fruit and vegetables before you cook or purée them.
Add liquid (breast milk or infant formula) to give a soft and smooth purée.
To purée your baby’s food, use a blender, food processor or push it through a sieve.
Don’t add salt, sugar, honey, soy sauce, cream, butter or margarine to your baby’s food.
Most baby foods can be kept in a covered container in the refrigerator for 48 hours.
Homemade baby food can be frozen in ice cube trays and used over the next 3-4 weeks.
